Scott Logic host Scottish Alt.Net

Phil Pounder, July 3rd, 2009

Last night, 21 members of Scotland’s Alt.Net community met at the offices of Scott Logic in Edinburgh for a couple of hours of presentation and discussion of O/RM tools in the .Net world.

“Object Relational Mapping” tools allow developers to bridge the gap between code and the database, leading to higher developer productivity and more robust and maintainable architecture. We looked at two O/RMs, NHibernate being the most widely used open source solution and Microsoft’s newer alternative – the “Entity Framework”. Three speakers talked about the differences and the similarities between the two. Afterwards we retired to the pub where the debate continued.

The Scotland Alt.Net community is a group of developers interested in .Net technologies, both those released by Microsoft and from elsewhere.

The community meet in Glasgow and Edinburgh and Scott Logic hope to host the event again in the near future.
