This weekend sees the inaugural race for the Scott Logic Running Club as we take part in the Heaton Harriers Town Moor Memorial 10k in Newcastle. This will involve casting aside our J2EE books and donning running shoes for a mid-November race which, in true Geordie style, is typically run wearing not much more than a string vest and shorts.
Our team have been training hard since June for the event. The regular training routes take in the scenic Quayside, passing by the Sage Gateshead and crossing any number of bridges over the Tyne, whilst the longer routes stretch to Jesmond Dene and the Town Moor. The favoured one mile time trial on Gateshead Quayside often gets bewildered looks from passers by as the group hurtles, or perhaps more accurately meanders, past on its way to the Swing Bridge. The running takes place most lunchtimes and the ethos is very much to cater for all standards.
At Scott Logic we like to set the bar high, so for our first race we have set ourselves the challenge of all finishing in the top 500 places. The reason? At the last count there were 449 entrants. Roll on Sunday morning.
