On Sunday 27th June, a team from Scottlogic entered the Durham Allcomers’ Regatta, looking to retain the title.
The team of Adrian Conlin, Andrew Kurowski, Chris Price and Simon Watson had just three training sessions to get to grips with rowing before the event, aimed at newcomers to the sport.
The Allcomers’ Regatta was held on a fine day on the River Wear, and drew a good crowd – especially considering the other sporting events being held on the same day. The crew came up against some tough competition, who had clearly been taking the event far too seriously. Having lost the first race, the crew was unable to progress in the repechage, defeated by the eventual winners of the plate despite a valiant effort.
Despite not retaining the trophy, the crew enjoyed the experience and will surely be back next year. At least we were right about one thing – when asked on the entry form “Where do you see your rowing career going after this event?”, the unanimous answer was “to the bar!”
