In the Dragons’ Den

This week Scott Logic Senior Developer Rosie Bruce was on the panel for a Dragons’ Den type event for second year students working on group projects in the Computer Science Department at Newcastle University. Rosie was invited to be the industry representative on the panel, together with two members of university staff.

This year the project brief was to design and build a mobile app for teaching modern languages to 13-16 year olds. Students do not need to have a working app when they pitch their project to the panel, but should have decided the technology stack and have ideas or prototypes for content and UI design, and plans for the project timeline and testing.

Rosie said: “I was impressed with the students. Most of them had produced an interesting presentation, presented it and answered questions confidently, and had clearly done a lot of work. I enjoyed this experience very much, and learnt some things too!”

Scott Logic tries to maintain strong links with local universities, and every year runs a Graduate Programme. The 2010 graduate intake are now all working as consultants with some of Scott Logic’s major clients.
