Senior Developer, Newcastle upon Tyne
I was attracted to Scott Logic by their offer of summer internship places testing out some of the latest development tools in the industry. I applied and luckily was accepted.
During the internship I was one of five interns working on different projects, all of which were themed around providing client access to view and edit portfolios. My project was to research different techniques and technologies associated with J2EE to .NET communication. The project introduced me to XML, SOAP, .NET, J2EE, Axis, AJAX, SQL, and many other things that weren’t on offer on an Electronics degree, but are widely used in industry. I thoroughly enjoyed the internship and got a real taste for working as part of a development team.
Thanks to the internship, I was offered a job as a graduate developer within the company. Initially the role involved not only re-using much of what I learnt during my previous time with the company, but also learning a lot more about client communication and relationships, and also about the financial sector. My first client project involved the development of an advanced web application to allow financial analysts to quickly mine vast data sources looking for specific characteristics, enabling them to make more informed trading decisions.
Since then I have worked on client projects spanning the range of backend and frontend technologies. I’m an avid fan of JavaScript and one of my favorite things about working at Scott Logic has been the enthusiasm the company has shown for this interest. The team is full of really intelligent motivated people, the environment is very relaxed and there’s always someone with the experience to help with any technical problem.
