North East England
North East England is one of the most dynamic regions in Europe. A thriving centre for digital media, life sciences, renewable energy and process industries, the region enjoys an international and long-standing reputation for innovation.
Thriving Economy
Home to a thriving £26bn economy, the region has changed dramatically in recent years, moving from an economic reliance on heavy industry to a modern, knowledge-based economy. More new technology companies are currently being created in the North East than anywhere outside of London.
The North East is unique in that it is home to five universities amidst a population of 2.5 million. Due to shortages of job opportunities, many of the graduates from these universities leave the region. It has become a very high priority for all universities to retain these graduates in the local area, and Scott Logic is in the ideal position to offer first class job opportunities to the very brightest of these students.
By working very closely with the universities, we believe we can use their graduates as the main source of staffing for Scott Logic in the long-term. This will have the benefit of ensuring a plentiful supply of home-grown talent.
Newcastle Upon Tyne
Compact, attractive and friendly, Newcastle upon Tyne is one of England's core cities, and is a centre of culture and architecture, with a heritage spanning the past 2,000 years.
Situated in the North East of England, on the banks of the River Tyne, and surrounded by the scenic beauty of Northumbria, Newcastle is an ideal place from which to tour the heritage coastline, with its unspoiled sandy beaches and sand dunes, or explore inland, where you will find Hadrian's Wall and many castles dotted across the landscape.
The region has been targeted for large funding initiatives from the UK government and the EU, with Newcastle upon Tyne being named as one of six Science Cities. It has been estimated that up to 100 new technology-based companies could be set up or attracted to the region by 2010 and this could create up to 5000 new jobs. This should provide a large pool of experienced talent from which to recruit.
Newcastle upon Tyne has excellent access links by air, ferry, road and rail. The airport handles over five million passengers per year and is the tenth largest, and the fastest growing, regional airport in the UK, and the regular train service means London is only 2.5 hours away.
North East England has been named as one of the must-see destinations for the coming year in the new edition of Lonely Planet Bluelist 2008. Read more
